Borax is great stuff for deodorizing laundry, especially towels, dishcloths, and similar items that get sour-smelling in hot, humid weather. I wash my laundry with unscented detergent and about half a cup of borax per load, and everything comes out smelling fresh and clean, even faintly sweet. Try it–you’ll probably never want to wash towels without borax again.My main complaint about borax is the box. The bottom corners always, always leak. Meanwhile, borax clumps. (I don’t think that’s a flaw of the product, it’s just what borax does.) And of course, when I try to pour out some borax, the clumps block the opening of the box. So I end up ripping off the whole top of the box so I can reach in there and break up the clumps, but ripping off the whole top of the box is easier said than done. Seriously, whoever’s driving those 20 mule teams. You have your box-gluing priorities exactly backwards. You need a whole lot more glue on the bottom flaps, especially at the corners, and a whole lot less glue on the top flaps.I recently decided to try emptying the borax out of the annoying boxes into a wide-mouth plastic jug with a screw-on lid so maybe it will be better protected from moisture and clump less. (I’ve also tried storing each box in its own two-gallon ziplock bag with a bunch of silica gel packs, but that method only helped marginally, if at all.) In case you wanted to know, a gallon jug will almost, but not quite, hold two boxes of borax. We’ll see if the plastic-jug-storage method works. At least, since the mule-drivers are probably not going to rework their gluing procedures, it will be easier to reach the clumps.

Used another oxy whitener that worked well. This works as well or better and costs much less. Sodium, Oxygen and Boron used to create Sodium Tetraborate (Na2B4O7 • 10H2O) and is mined in Central and Southern California. The other uses plastics, surfactants and carbonate. More natural and no plastics. Even the carton is recyclable.

I try to be never out of this borax. It is the best product to fight fleas and ant problems in your home. I add it to bed clothes when washing them to avoid the fleas. I sprinkle the powder on carpet and around baseboards. It has proven to be pet and child safe for the past 20 or more years for me.

I use borax with every load of laundry. It works great! Unfortunately, Amazon used the USPS to deliver this product instead of their usual delivery drivers. The box was left out in the rain instead of leaving it under our covered porch a few feet away. Now I have to break up the solid powder before it can be used. 🙁

Excellent value. I don’t give 5-stars very much, only for if really excellent. How can Borax be “excellent” ? lol! well:So, it came in an OEM “box of 4”. One of them, must have been packed that way, it had a slight break in the top where it’s sealed, but on the side near the edge. I though, okay, here we go (I hate returning stuff)… anyway it was about a 1.5 inch break – like it got hit by something mechanical or something, but also like when one may open just a top corner and fold back sideways, lengthwise.So, the container box was heavily powdered with Borax but not like if the outside box got struck and a big delivered mess – not like that (this was packaged that way). – *So, I went to my brand-new accurate digital scale and see 4.4lb on the read out. Well, the box and description says 65 oz/4.1lb, or just over 4lb and even with that spillage – it *still had 4.4lb (versus 4.06lb).So, in a period now where many manufacturers are secretly reducing contents and etc., this was a great deal to begin with, and I guess they may just + the content to avoid any shortage of if a box is slightly damaged (?) – good for them! – It made my day (and not return/exchange). It also speaks highly of the handlers since if was rough handled, well, it would have been a return.So, again, a great value and while it will last me a while – I do use it.I hope that helps someone else!

I add Borax to every load of laundry and it makes my laundry even cleaner than detergent alone. We have a lot of pets so things get stinky and stains can get tough, but by adding 1/2 c to each large load, things come out great. It also helps to remove some set in stains.I have this on subscribe and save and that makes it super convenient and I never run out.

We put this with Dr. Bronners soap and white vinegar in a specific amount to make our own mix that works very well. I don’t reccomend making it without a tried and true recipe, but, if that’s something you’re interested in, it’s good for it.
